AMATA Video Statement: Calling AU leaders to build on momentum for the African Medicines Agency at the 35th AU Summit

Published on: 17 February 2022
As heads of state and government gathered at the 35th African Union Summit (5-6 February 2022), IFPMA as part of the African Medicines Agency Treaty Alliance (AMATA) applauded the momentum reached so far on the ratification and implementation of the AMA.  AMATA, a multistakeholder alliance established to advocate for the ratification and implementation of the AMA, called for the remaining AU Member States to ratify the AMA and urged key steps to be taken to operationalize the Agency, including sustainable financing and adequate human resource capacity. According to AMATA members, it is also key that the Agency sets up a framework of engagement with patients and non-state actors and to draw upon all available expertise to provide technical guidance.
